Redesigning checkout to lift new-customer conversion from the 20s to the 30s %.

As Design Lead for a marketplace of 85,000 artists and 3,000+ curators, I redesigned checkout and the order of the funnel. I led a second designer and built the product with the three co-owners, one of them the lead developer.

01 — In short

Challenge

Artists paid before anyone reviewed their music, and new-customer conversion sat in the 20s %.

What I did

Led a second designer, in a triple leadership with the three co-owners. Redesigned checkout, proposed apply first and pay after approval, and built the design system behind the AI-assisted rebuild.

Result

Conversion moved into the 30s %, and apply-first became the key change in the platform rebuild.

02 — Decisions

Three calls behind the numbers.

  1. Redesign checkout

New-customer conversion moved from the 20s into the 30s %.

  2. Apply first, pay after approval

Artists pay only for a yes. It became the key change in the platform rebuild.

  3. A media library for the 30% who come back

Tracks and assets stay ready for the next campaign; extra storage is a paid upgrade.
